More like 'lazy blogger is lazy' but never mind; I'm here now.
So, what have I been up to? Aside from recovering from yet another migraine, I've had a brainthink about minor revisions to be made to A Little Death before publication. Moving a conversation from one chapter to another, tightening up other patches of dialogue, that should be all that's required. (And no, that brainthink wasn't what caused the migraine - I'm just genetically cursed in that respect).
What am I working on now? A M/M novella (please God, just a novella this time) called Stay the Night, of which more news anon, i.e. when it's finished and sold. As usual, I fretted that my outline didn't have enough plot points in it. As usual, even three chapters in, I'm writing long according to the dictates of my characters who have taken over. They're also sniggering at my determination to keep them around the 30k mark. Bastids.
I've recently read Cherise Sinclair's Master of the Mountain. I say recently, I mean finished it within the past few hours. There's nothing like some good BDSM-fic to while away a sleepless night when you're recovering from a migraine. And thank God for Ms. Sinclair. Far too much BDSM-fic is unsafe, certifiably insane and...not to put too fine a point on it...rapey. Not so here. Okay, I had a minor quibble with the fact Logan (the Dom) didn't discuss hard limits, but there was a safe word and he was otherwise caring and the sub, Rebecca, wasn't a whiny doormat, so no other complaints here. Oops, it sounds like I'm saying I enjoyed this book because of everything it wasn't, comparing it to the bad fiction I've read. Suffice it to say I definitely recommend this book. 60k words or thereabouts and I whizzed through it in nearly one sitting, while, I must say again, I was recovering from a migraine. It was that good. I've got the sequel, Master of the Abyss, on my ereader, along with Club Shadowlands (the first of the Masters of the Shadowlands series) so I'm rubbing my hands together in anticipation.
Which reminds me...in complete contrast to the above fangirl squeeing, I have a guest blog coming up soon regarding what I've dubbed 'rapey erotica'. A Twitter-buddy picked up on the fact this is one of my hot button topics and offered up her blog for me to rant all over. Whether that turns out to be a wise decision or not remains to be seen. Another Twitter-buddy and fellow author also asked if I'd guest on her blog, so I'll need to get the little grey cells working and come up with a topic. I wonder if she'd go for "How Hot James Purefoy is and Why I'm the Only Woman Who Can Make Him Happy"?
In other news, Jensen Ackles is hot.

I'm not sure why my mind wanders to you when I do my shoulders exercises, but it does. Probably because your New Year's resolutions kicked my anti-resolution's ass. Anyway - just checking in! I think I'll go buy Club Shadowlands since this is the second time this week it has whizzed past my scanner. Byeeeeeeee!
ReplyDeleteI avoid most BDSM fic for precisely the reasons you mention (also that what I like about the reality is the headspace stuff rather than the shiny accessories), but I may check out your recs now.
