Behold my openings!

Snerk.

Just for fun, here are the openings of my three published novels, two further sold works and my current project. Do they work for you? Are you hooked? If not, why?

Long Time Coming
The empty bedroom inspired nothing but relief when I peeked around the door. While I’d showered, Andrew Kincaid had left the building, possible confrontation too much for him.

A floorboard in the living room creaked, the television sparked to life and my heart sank. No such luck.
Plus One
Pink hair is an attention-grabber and there are certainly times when hair made of snakes and set on fire would be slightly less conspicuous.

And more appropriate.

Like job interviews for example.
By the Book
Cradling the receiver, I groaned. Another meaningless phone call from another staff member in another department calling the wrong desk about a problem I couldn’t help them with.

Someone cleared his throat on the other side of the counter. “Excuse me?”

Throwing “Just leave your books there and I’ll see to them,” his way, my breath caught for an instant as I looked up. For a moment I believed I’d been accosted by a diabolical visitation rather than a patron.
(Third-party sites' purchase links are also available on my 'Books by Scarlett Parrish' page, above).

A Little Death, due out this August:
Three things I learned from fucking a vampire: They don’t perspire.

They never come.

And it’s the closest thing to death I’ll ever experience.
Stay the Night, likely published in October but don't quote me:
“You have got to be fucking kidding me.” I was the only one standing and the only one with the balls not to come out with some congratulatory bullshit about how happy I was for the guy who was leaving us all in the lurch just because his girlfriend had a goldmine in her pants.
Burn, my current work-in-progress:
I had a list of goals, but for tonight, only one rule: no names.
And that's your lot. What do you think?

6 stains:

  1. Based on the opening line to A Little Death, I will definitely buy that one.

  2. I love the opening to Plus One (Having a MC with pink hair has nothing to do with it, I swear!)

Her voice is great; it doesn't feel like she's trying to open a novel, but rather just thinking a random though we're privy to.

  3. Thank you, KB and Josin...permission to squee? :D

  4. I liked them ... though I don't read erotica. Good writing's good writing, regardless of the genre.

Actually, I don't seem to be reading much lately except a book about the British Loyalists fleeing the newly founded USA.

  6. The opening for A Little Death and Burn are really great.
